Fake Login Page
These are pretty easy to spot. Let's say you're in a shop, and you see an item for sale for real cheap,
like a rare paintbrush for 1000np or something, so you click on it to buy it, and when you do you're taken to a new page,
and it says you are not logged in. Look closely at the url or site address in the address bar at the top of your page. It
will not say neopets. The only real login page is http://www.neopets.com/loginpage.phtml, anything else is fake. DON'T LOGIN!
If you do you'll be sending your username and password to a hacker, and they will empty your account. Instead click the Report
this shop button and report it to Neopets.
Fake Priced Items
You're in a shop again, and thinking about buying an item because it's real cheap, like a faerie for
100np. But usually they're not really 100np. If you hold your mouse over the item it'll show the real price. Another way to
find out is to click to buy the item and read the grey box that shows up ... it'll say ... do you really want to buy this
item for XXXneopoints? If that number is higher than the advertised price don't click okay ... report the shop.
The Report Shop Button
Okay, sometimes the hackers even have those tricked too. When you click them, they take you to
a fake login page. If this happens DO NOT LOGIN! Instead go back to neopets and write a letter to abuse@neopets.com.
Shop Contests
Sometimes people advertise that they are running a contest in their shop. Like if you buy an over priced
item, they'll send you a paintbrush. Some people are honest and they will send you the promised item, but most of them are
not. This is against neopets rules now, so you can report the shop.
Trading Post - Fortune Telling Fish Scam
You will see people at the trading post have fortune telling fish up for trade.
They say it'll lay fish neggs, so you should give them a lot of np for it. This is a scam, the fortune telling fish is worth
100np and doesn't lay fish neggs. It's a toy.
Trading Post Scams
Always check the shop wizard before offering on any trades. People will say their items are worth
much more than what they are, or they do special things they don't do.
Neomail Scams
Never give out your password to anyone ... not even Neopets Staff will ask for it! Never change your email
address to something someone asks you to change it to ... people can get your pass this way.
Tips
Never give out your password
Never change your email address
Always report hackers/scammers
Check the
wizard first before bidding in the trading post
