The Curse on Maraqua

Out of all the Neopian worlds, it is Maraqua which has had the worst luck.

One dark day back in August 17, 2001, evil pirate captain descended towards Maraqua in order to collect his protection money... When the King of Maraqua refused to pay, the pirate laid his curse on him! By August 18, 2001 a gigantic whirlpool had swept through the underwater city destroying everything in its path.

The whirlpool, some ten miles in diameter, continually spun above the site of the once proud city of Maraqua. Nobody knows what caused it, or if it is ever going to stop. One thing is for certain and that is Maraqua is no more. Its buildings destroyed, its inhabitants lost, and its treasures and riches forever strewn across the sea bed.

But! The story is not over yet! On May 31, 2002, nearly a year after the whirlpool appeared, it finally began to slow down. If you stare really hard down into the darkness you can begin to see the wreckage of the city of Maraqua.

Undoubtedly a few brave adventurers will overcome their fears and plunge down into the murky waters. Only then will we learn more about what happened down there and if there is anything that may be salvaged.

June 6, 2003 - Ok, this is really weird. Fishermen off the coast of Mystery Island spotted this strange creature earlier today. We don't know what it is, or where it comes from. More news soon!

Something very unusual has been seen swimming around the ruins of Maraqua and it looks vaguely like an Acara...

On June 10, 2003, A strange pit has been located in the ruins of Maraqua. Maybe this has something to do with the recent sighting of Maraquan Neopets, and maybe it is a portal to an ancient, kingdom... or maybe not!
